Classic Youth Choir “Ladiya” of the Togliatti Children’s Musical School No. 4 has for the first time represented Togliatti at the 9th World Choir Games held July 6 – 16, 2016 in Sochi. Participation of the ensemble in the choir Olympics became possible thanks to the support of OJSC Togliattiazot (ToAZ), Russia’s biggest ammonia producer.

Samara Region was represented at the competition by three choirs, “Ladiya” among them. Togliatti artists took part in the Champions Competition, a contest of choirs that already have performance background, in the age category of up to 26 years old. The jury awarded the choir from Togliatti a silver medal.

Commenting on the results of performance by the choir, Director and Conductor of “Ladiya”, Russia’s Honored Culture Professional Galina Devyatkina said: “The Games are a unique event in terms of number of vocalists, atmosphere and scope – it is a real choir Olympics! For us, to perform at the competition of such a level is a great success. We applied to perform in one of the most difficult nominations and won silver in our subgroup. For the debutants of a contest gathering the world’s best musical voices, it is a brilliant result. Our musical dream has come true thanks to Togliattiazot! Now it is time to start getting ready for European Choir Games-2017, to which we have already got an invitation.”

Julia Petrenko, Deputy CEO of CJSC Corporation Togliattiazot, noted, “Our city has a reputation for outstanding events in arts and music. Students of Togliatti musical schools perform at national and regional competitions, their names are internationally known. ToAZ helps young artists open new horizons, and we are happy the Togliatti choir did so well in a major competition, it’s a great experience for the boys.”

The choir of boys and youths “Ladiya” was founded in 1994. Organizers of the ensemble were Galina Devyatkina, Russia’s Honored Culture Professional, today’s director and choir conductor, and accompanist Olga Levina. In 2009, “Ladiya” choir was awarded the title Exemplary Arts Ensemble. The Togliatti choir is a prize-winner of many competitions in Russia and abroad. In 2014, soloists of the boys’ choir took part in the concert by the Children’s Choir of Russia at the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg, in the Closing Ceremony of the Olympic Games in Sochi, and in the Day of Russia in Crimea celebrations.

World Choir Games is a biennial international competition of amateur choirs. The first competition of choirs and vocalists took place in Austria in 2000. The Games were also hosted by South Korea, Germany, China, the U.S.A. and Latvia. In 2014, 283 choirs from 36 countries attended the Games in Sochi.

Togliattiazot is a regular sponsor of cultural projects and events aimed at promotion of culture and arts. This year, ToAZ was a general partner of Tremolo Festival. The plant traditionally supports Togliatti Philharmonic Hall. ToAZ took part in the Save the Steinway! event and held a series of classical music concerts. Togliattiazot plans to further support cultural events and talented musicians of the city.
