PROJECT FOR THIRD UREA UNIT PASSES PUBLIC HEARINGS

The hearings were attended by representatives of the Department of Municipal Services of Togliatti, consumer rights watchdog (Rospotrebnadzor), environmental protection union, students and teachers of the chemical technologies department of Togliatti State University.

The project was developed in cooperation with Urea Casale and Research Institute of Urea and Organic Synthesis Products. It envisages significantly lower emissions into the atmosphere, while the degree of purification will reach 93%. The project meets all requirements for industrial and ecological safety; an advanced controlling system will secure safe operation. For example, in case of an accident the emergency automatics will shut down the unit.

Public representatives approved the project following the assessment of technical parameters of the new unit and calculated environmental stress.

Vyacheslav Suslov, CEO of CJSC Corporation Togliattiazot, said: “In current economic conditions we face a necessity of rapid and efficient development of national agriculture. Nitrogen-based mineral fertilizers are growth drivers of agricultural production. We develop the project for construction of the new urea unit under the program for imports phase-out to meet the demands of Russian agriculture. I am confident the construction will facilitate rise in exports as our product complies with worldwide quality standards. Along with economic value, the project offers social benefits too. It will create about 100 jobs and the town will get a boost altogether.”

The project will be implemented in the framework of the facilities upgrade program through 2020 with investments reaching more than 9.5 billion rubles. The unit will have a production capacity of 2,200 tons per day. The launch is planned for 2019.

Today two existing urea units produce 480,000 tons a year.
