TogliattiAzot celebrated the beginning of the new century with a great achievement – new and unique methanol production plant with annual capacity of 450 thousand tones was put into operation. It became a real technological breakthrough, even in global scale.

The unicity of this new production site lays in the fact, that the project of horizontal installation of the unit has been implemented for the very first time in the world practice. This idea (initiated by V.N.Makhlay) facilitated safety provisions, led to substantial savings in construction costs and increased potential additional production output of methanol. Besides, the technology of the new plant design provides for processing tens of thousands tones of carbon dioxide, which previously used to be simply emitted by the plants into atmosphere. The new facilities excel many similar foreign plants by several times in terms of equipment specifications, environmental and other parameters.

The share of ToAZ methanol production amounts nowadays to one third of total Russian production volume. Thus, the company has not just settled the issue of supplying its own production sites with the required raw materials, but also has satisfied the demands for these products of other chemical enterprises. Methanol is used in production of plastic items, various insulation materials, paints and lacquers, adhesives, fuel additives, etc. TogliattiAzot is currently considering starting its own projects related to methanol processing.
