Ammonia is one of the major products of chemical industry; it is used to produce nitrogen-based compounds, nitric acid and fertilizers (ammonium nitrate, carbamide and composite fertilizers). Applying 100 kilograms of ammonia to one hectare of land can increase wheat yield by 8 to 10% and corn yield by 60%. Ammonia can also be used as a separate fertilizer in form of liquid or ammonia water. TogliattiAzot is carrying-out a wide scope of work to resume and to implement this method of soil fertilization. Several installations were purchased from the USA for these purposes, and manufacturing of similar equipment was set up in-house.
Liquid ammonia is also used in refrigeration plants as a coolant, in foundry shops as a product for safety purposes, in plastic parts manufacturing and so on.
